Buzz about the new social networking tool, Recognizr, has swept the Internet since it was displayed as a prototype at Mobile World Congress two weeks ago. Fox News, BBC, SC Magazine and other news sources are now covering the application, filling in some of the details people all over the world are asking.
Recognizr is an augmented reality application that is in the prototype stage. It was developed as a very interesting AR tech demo and experiment for TAT, which prepares us for future mobile UI requirements. We came to the conclusion that AR could be used for many things; however social networking was the area that would have mass appeal. It was developed using existing technology (cameras, facial recognition, search) to make a better social networking experience for those who feel social networking is important to their quality of life. Recognizr puts the user in control of who they want to broadcast information to or who cannot access any data at all, even if the other person is a subscriber to Recognizr. Recognizr will be coming soon to Android phones. Stay tuned for availability on other mobile phones.
TAT is very sensitive to privacy concerns. Safeguards are offered with Recognizr to prevent privacy violations:
- Recognizr facial recognition only works when both users have personally subscribed to the service.
- The user can set his or her own privacy level, similar to Facebook. This includes:
- If/what photo will be shown.
- What information will be publicly displayed
- What information would be kept private for only certain designated groups. For example, they could have a family profile, a work profile, a friend profile and a public profile, each designating what information would be displayed and who would be considered part of each group.
- What social networks would be connected
Recognizr takes the complexity out of setting privacy levels, making it easier for users to protect their own privacy.
TAT will not be selling Recognizr directly to consumers. It will be made available to mobile phone manufacturers and mobile phone service providers that would like to develop it as a service or application to offer to their customers.
TAT is in the business of taking complex technology and wrapping it in a package that makes it easy for everyday people to use to improve the quality of their lives. TAT technology is in more than 400 million mobile phones that have been purchased by people around the world, technology that makes the phones easier to use, smarter and just more fun.
